Ca$h (2010)

Ca$h posterBy: Stephen Milburn Anderson (director, writer)

Starring: Sean Bean, Chris Hemsworth, Victoria Profeta

A man meets up with two “good guys” to recover what is unlawfully his, taking them on his whirlwind ride, doing things they never would have imagined, just to survive.

2.5 Stars: Disappointing

I’m feeling absolutely awful tonight, so I have to ask you forgive me for what will undoubtedly be a sub-par review. Fortunately, it’s of a sub-par film, so there’s probably not much lost, there.

To be fair, I didn’t have much in the way of expectations for Ca$h to live up to. My primary reason for bothering with it was so that I could see how Chris Hemsworth fares outside of his scant few minutes in Star Trek. The good news is that Hemsworth gives a solid turn despite questionable direction, and I’m all the more excited to see how he does in Thor. Sean Bean mostly phones in his performance, and Victoria Profeta is entirely unconvincing for the duration of the film.

The premise is a stretch, the pacing slow and the score god awful. I get the impression that the movie’s trying to make some sort of moral or social statement about the nature of man, but never quite manages to drive it home well enough to have any real impact.

So, in summation: Chris Hemsworth = good, this movie = not so much. And now I’m taking some drugs and going to bed.
